It’s an interesting plan that adds in flexibility that seems to make sense, while also relieving the stress of a family having to choose a neighborhood or home based on the location of the family’s school of choice. With the new plan, it would be the other way around: picking the school of your choice once you are in a neighborhood or home of your choice.
As REALTORs, Diane and I find that most home buyers with children we work with make the school their children attend (or want to attend) one of the main – if not the main – criteria for choosing a new neighborhood and home. It is often difficult to match the competing interests of the buyers’ homestyle, price point, amenities, convenience, and other lifestyle concerns, with the buyers’ school of choice. The new plan gives families more “options” and choice which seems like a smart move in the right direction.
